Robbo pinpoints lack of quality

Reaction from our Head Coach after 0-0 draw

Mark Robinson highlighted the lack of confidence that was on show from his Wimbledon side as the key reason for last night's scoreless display.

A scrappy contest at Gillingham resulted in a game of very little chances and a clear lack of composure in attacking areas from Wimbledon, which understandably left our Head Coach feeling frustrated.

“There was a lack of quality,” said Robbo. “We can’t say we haven’t dug in, but we never really got any momentum going. You can see that there’s a lack of confidence on the ball. For us to kick on again, we’ve got to get our swagger back.”

The game was often plagued by high balls that led to battles for possession all over the field of play and as a result less risks were being taken as the game wore on. This is certainly something that Robbo feels we need to change in order to get back into our stride.

“It’s the mental side of it because we are where we are. When you’re on a run like this you become safe,” he explained. “You haven’t got that movement and that freedom and that’s what we’ve got to search for.”

One of the main positives that could be taken from the evening was the return of Aaron Pressley who got his first minutes since being sidelined through injury in December. The Brentford loanee came on alongside Terry Ablade as the Dons looked to find a winner.

“We wanted to get two up top and I felt Terry did well when he came on. Pres has only played B team games for Brentford, but it was good for him to get some minutes.

“The players had a really good chat in the dressing room and the things they are saying are all the right things, so I’m looking forward to Saturday.

“We’re very hopeful that Woody will be back. Ayoub will be back from suspension. Rudi should be back, and I’ve also found out that Henry Lawrence is due to join training next week. The competition will be there now.”
