Ashlee’s superb treble extends winning run

Report from an excellent victory for Kevin Foster's side

31 January 2022

Our women’s first-team made it four successive wins with a fantastic display at home to Cambridge City on Sunday.

Ashlee Hincks led the charge with a hat-trick in the 5-0 victory with Rebecca Carter and Katie Stanley also getting on the scoresheet, as the Dons stayed in contention for promotion.

In a match played at Carshalton Athletic, the Dons got off to a dream start when Rebecca Carter finished superbly from a tight angle and the advantage was doubled through a fantastic free-kick by Ashlee, who made it three after only 30 minutes. Katie Stanley increased the advantage with an outstanding long-range effort that arrowed into the top corner, before Ashlee completed her hat-trick to make it 5-0 at the break.

Though the Dons were unable to add to the goals tally in the second-half, it was a convincing display and it ensured that promotion hopes are well and truly alive.

First-team coach Andy May said: “It was a really dominant first 45 minutes, and it was a very good display. Our style of play was a little bit different from last week as it was a nice little pitch to play on, so we got the ball down and dictated the game. We drove our standards and tempo, but we just need to have a little bit more of a ruthless edge. We created enough to help bump our goal difference up.”

Next up for the Dons is a trip to Havant and Waterlooville with a match versus Portsmouth in the FAWNL Plate. With the Dons having already beaten Norwich, Chesham and Portishead so far in this competition, a win would take our women’s first-team into the semi-final of a national competition.

The Dons are next at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Wednesday 16 February at home to QPR. With it being half-term week and the men’s first-team without a midweek fixture, come and join us to cheer on our title-chasers! Visit our online tickets page to guarantee your place.
