Mosaic mural to be unveiled today

Take a look in the Cappagh Stand before the game

15 January 2022

We are delighted to announce that a fascinating mosaic mural will be unveiled before the game today.

Wimbledon in Sporting History (WiSH) and AFC Wimbledon will be unveiling it ahead of the Morecambe game at 11.30 am as the first part of our fans-funded heritage timeline, which puts fans and history at the heart of the new stadium.

The Greatest Story mosaic is made up of thousands of fans' photos to recreate the iconic old Womble Til I Die gates from the old Plough Lane stadium. This creative work will be installed in the Cappagh (West) Stand concourse and will be the first thing fans see as you go through the turnstiles.

The new mosaic has been made possible thanks to the 401 people who raised nearly £12,000 in a crowdfunding campaign last autumn and then uploaded their photos - 1,443 photos in total.

As well as photos, you will see QR codes in the mosaic, which allow you to see clips of iconic moments and memories from our past. The mosaic celebrates that AFC Wimbledon really is A Fans' Club, and is the first step in a timeline being installed in the next couple of months in the main corridor of the Cappagh Stand. This will celebrate the history of football in Wimbledon from our formation in 1889 to our return to Plough Lane.
