Signs of moving in the right direction after narrow loss

Head Coach targets our first home game for over a month

Mark Robinson is looking forward to our first home game for 49 days against Morecambe on Saturday, following defeat by a single goal last night.

“The positive was that there was more energy in our performance," said Robbo. “We looked like the rust had gone, we’ve got to be better on the ball, but now we take that into Saturday, and we’ve got to get back to winning ways, which I’m confident we will.

“We are a confident side in the way we play. I’m confident that when the first win comes, we’re more than capable of getting three or four wins on the spin. Every game has a different challenge and that’s for me to make sure that we’re prepared mentally. All we’ve got to get back to on Saturday is being the side we know we can be and getting three points to get us rolling again.”

Despite being reduced to 10 men for a large part of the game last night, we pressed for a late equaliser, and two penalty appeals were turned down by the referee after challenges in the box on Jack Rudoni.

“I have had a chance to look at them,” said Robbo. “The first one was on Jack Rudoni, the player wasn’t even looking at the ball, that’s from a cross. He’s just put his arms around Rudi and just pulled him to the ground, so it looked like a penalty to me.

“The second incident - their player has won the ball, but he’s come from the side at thigh height and scissor kicked him, but the referee said he’s come from the side and won it.

“I think that’s the sort of challenge that if it was made in the middle of the pitch he gives a foul every single time. You can’t rely on officials, even though they did look like penalties. We still need to look at our performance as well.

“I was disappointed with how we gave the goal away. We did start the game well; our intensity was good, and our shape was working. They were giving us the ball, we were winning the ball, our press was much better. I wasn’t happy with how we turned the ball over - far too easily, too quickly. We didn’t build momentum. I’m not saying we were poor, but we never got the foothold I wanted us to have.

“Leading up to the goal was poor. We can’t give away goals like that. What led to that was poor detail and passes and once we did that you’ve got to make a decision and put your foot through it and get rid of it. I’m all for us playing and we had moments when we did, but we’ve also got to recognise when we're in trouble and just clear the danger. We were stretched open, and the goal was far too easy.”
