Dons clinch deal for towering frontman!

Striker arrives at Plough Lane

15 July 2022

AFC Wimbledon are delighted to announce the signing of Huddersfield Town striker Kyle Hudlin on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old centre-forward, who stands at six foot nine inches, recently signed for the Terriers after impressing for National League promotion final runners-up Solihull Moors last season.

Kyle is now set to get his first taste of Football League action with the Dons, with his arrival helping to significantly bolster our forward options for the season ahead.

A highly-rated frontman, he began his career in the lower reaches of the non-league circuit with Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons.

He caught the eye for the Falcons, with 25 goals in 22 games earning him a move to Midland League Division Two side Solihull United in March 2020.

This led to his move to the Moors, with his impact being felt almost instantaneously as he netted a hattrick in just his second game for the West Midlands outfit.

His stock began to rise as he plundered 15 goals in 62 games, leading to rumored interest from clubs such as Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Cardiff City before Huddersfield won the race for his signature.

Speaking shortly after completing his move to the Dons, Kyle said:

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase my talent in league football. I want to help Wimbledon to kick on and get back into League One – which is where we need to be.

“The gaffer has been really welcoming to me. He’s someone that expects high standards and I feel like that will help to push me up to the next level and get the best out of me.

“I expect League Two to be a bit more technical than the National League but it still has the same characteristics that I have grown used to.”

Johnnie Jackson had this to say on the deal: “We’re really pleased. He’s someone who has been on our radar for a while. He’s been very well sought after, Huddersfield have gone and paid a transfer fee for him. We know he did really well for Solihull in the National League.

“He’s ready to make a step up and will come into a position that we’re light on in terms of options. He’s obviously a tall and physical lad, which will be a major attribute but he’s also good with his feet and can score different types of goals. He’s also capable of linking the play and showing that he can move about the pitch well.

“Huddersfield see him as a player that they want to develop in the future, hence why they want him to go out on loan and play games. We spoke to them and they felt we were the club to give him that platform to develop.”
