First Impressions: Kyle Hudlin

Getting to know our new striker

21 July 2022

On the field of play, Kyle Hudlin is known for being – quite literally – a larger than life character, but off it he likes to showcase his skills in the kitchen and unwind whilst watching some clips of his footballing idols.

The six foot nine striker was shown around the Cherry Red Records Stadium for the first time on Monday afternoon after completing his loan move to AFC Wimbledon as he took in the sun-kissed stands and glistening pitch as temperatures across the UK reached obscene levels.

Nevertheless our new recruit wasn’t phased by the heat coming down from above and was only too happy to take some time out of his day in order to give us a small insight into his character and the background of his career.

In our latest instalment of the First Impressions series, Kyle discussed his love of Ronaldinho and Neymar, being in the transfer spotlight and much more as he sat down with Chris Thorpe.

The full transcript of the conversation is down below, whilst you can also watch it on our official YouTube channel.

From the outside looking in it always looks good as it showed I was doing something right. As a player you don’t really look into it.

During my first season at Solihull Moors I had interest in me from a lot of big clubs such as Manchester City. You can’t let it get to your head. You have to stay humble because nothing is done in football until it’s done. It was a massive relief when I got my move to Huddersfield as it showed all the hard work had paid off.

Ronaldinho. Zidane. Loads of flair players. Although I was tall as a kid, I didn’t quite realise how much it would set me apart from other people, so I was always looking at the most entertaining players.

I watched a lot of Neymar when he played for Santos. I’m a big believer in entertaining through football. That’s the reason I play – to express myself.

I had Ronaldinho’s white Tiempos as a kid, with the tongue that folded over the top and ‘R10’ written on the side. I wish I kept them! I watched the Neymar documentary and I noticed he taped his wrists so that’s something I started doing.

I’m actually a decent cook. I’ve improved over time. It changes every week really. I like chicken because you can create so many variations with it. At the moment I’m really enjoying prawns. I never used to like them but I tried them once and I fell in love!

I had to cancel mine due to my injury. However it means that at the end of this season – when we’ve achieved what we’re supposed to achieve – I can really go and enjoy myself.

I had Ibiza booked, so it would have been memorable but you have to look after your body first and foremost.

I’ve always been tall. My mum always said I was born at 58 centimeters. I was always taller than everybody else – in year six at school I was at least five foot 10, size 10 or 11 feet.

I stopped growing when I was 17, so I’ve been six foot nine since then.
