Squad Update

Contracts and departures

5 July 2022

Following discussions we can announce that Nesta Guinness-Walker and Anthony Hartigan will both be departing the Club after the expiration of their contracts.

We can also confirm that Huseyin Biler and Elliott Bolton have taken up our offers of contract extensions and will be remaining with Wimbledon. The Club remains in talks with Paul Osew and Zach Robinson.

Speaking after tying down Huseyin and Elliott, Johnnie Jackson said: “We’re really pleased. These lads came through the youth system and are exciting young players with a lot of potential. We want to help them to maximise their potential and hopefully they go on to have long careers.”

Anthony Hartigan made just north of 150 appearances for the Dons after graduating from our academy. The midfielder joined the club at the age of 14 and quickly established himself as one of our brightest young prospects before being handed his senior debut at the age of 17 by Neal Ardley.

Speaking about the departure of Anthony, First-Team Coach Rob Tuvey said:

“We’re very proud of the progression that Anthony made at the football club. He came in as an under-14 and went all the way to making his professional debut as an under-18. He’s been a great servant to the Club and has always given time and dedication to improve. We wish him all the best in his future career.”

As previously announced Darius Charles is also leaving the Club after being part of our coaching set-up following his decision to retire from playing. Of course, Darius is a player who will be associated with fond memories for plenty of Wimbledon fans after forming a key part of our 2016 promotion winning squad. In total, the centre back made 86 appearances for the Dons over the course of two spells.

“Darius is undoubtedly a club legend,” said Rob. “He has done great things for the football club and without him we wouldn’t have experienced such great times. Not only did he have a great career but he is also a great human being. We too wish him all the best for the future.”

Nesta Guinness-Walker joined the Dons from Met Police in July 2019 and quickly became a regular for the best part of three seasons, making a total of 97 appearances. The attacking left back also chalked up three goals, including memorable strikes against Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

We’d like to place on record our thanks to Anthony, Darius and Nesta and we wish them all the best in their future careers.
