Will Nightingale says that he and his teammates retain a strong sense of responsibility to put things right on the pitch at Plymouth on Tuesday.
“We have to stick together, there’s no other way,” said Will after we were unable to find an equaliser at promotion-chasing Wigan on Saturday. “We’ve got to look at ourselves first and foremost as players. We know that. We know there’s a lot of good things, but we know we can be so much better and that’s why we have to keep driving it.
“We’re not far away, but we’ve got to pick ourselves up again and keep the belief because that’s how we’ve got ourselves out of this trouble in the past. We’ve not been in the bottom four once this season and we know we’ve got so much more to give and that’s the annoying part.”
Although ultimately, we couldn’t come up with a reply to Wigan’s first half goal, Will backed his central defensive colleagues Paul Kalambayi and substitute Dan Csoka for their contributions in trying to do so.
“We wanted to give it a go and try and change something and give it a different approach,” said Will. “I thought Dan was very solid when he came on. He’s a great professional and he did very well. Me and Paul know how each other work. We know our good points and where we’ve got to cover for each other, so we’ve got that relationship where we’ve played together for a good few years so that we have that understanding.
“To be honest, we were trying to push for the goal at the end and their support was getting unsettled, so we were troubling them a little bit. Their keeper pulled off a great save early in the second half and then we’ve had a cutback where we could have done better as well. We‘ve got to work them better.
“They are second in the league, and we’ve lost out by just one goal, but we’ve got to look at ourselves when it comes to technical detail and us as players - we have to do better.”
