Chis on new shifts and Pelly gifts

In-form midfielder talks the talk

18 November 2022

Ethan Chislett is thriving in his newfound position on the right side of midfield – with his blossoming partnership with teammate Harry Pell also taking the Dons to new heights.

Fresh after his super-sub exploits in the midweek FA Cup win over Weymouth, our number 11 discusses our upturn in results, getting on the scoresheet with his head, goal celebrations and the upcoming World Cup in an informal interview.

It’s the perfect way to get in the mood ahead of our trip to Tranmere on Saturday as we seek to extend our unbeaten run.

You can watch the interview on our Official YouTube Channel, whilst the full transcript can be read below.

POSITION CHANGE

I feel like I’m playing well. Playing on the right-hand side is a slightly new position for me. Despite playing wide the gaffer wants me to contribute in those central areas of the pitch – I’m essentially playing as a number 10 anyway, which is my preferred position. I’m just trying to adapt in order to do what I can for the team.

ON ME HEAD SON!

The only other one I can remember was for Aldershot. Pelly (Harry Pell) is a big boy, so I knew he was going to get the flick-on. He’s very clever with his knockdowns, I just thought I’d gamble. Gaffer told me to play off him when I came on and I did that.

THE FINAL THIRD

I think things are flowing better for us (since we adjusted the formation). Pelly and Josh (Davison) run down everything, they work well off each other and then you’ve got me and Ayoub (Assal) on the wings. We’re different players but we try to bring our strengths to the team. It’s clicking and working really well.

THE CELEBRATION

Pelly is a flair player. He watches Neymar, that’s his idol (laughs). Neymar gives it a bit of that. I scored so I thought I’d give him some credit, that was my way of thanking him!

A HECTIC SCHEDULE

We’ve got a real foundation to build on. We’re on a great run of form – eight unbeaten now – it’s important we build on it. It’s only a positive that the games are coming thick and fast.

WORLD CUP

I’ll be trying to watch Chrissy Gunter won’t I! And of course England. South Africa didn’t qualify, which is unfortunate. I’m looking forward to it and I’m sure it will be a great event.

I remember exactly where I was (for Siphiwe Tshabalala’s goal in 2010). I was at my mate’s house, playing some cricket in the back garden after school and it was scenes when it went in – it was lovely!
