Dons and Ammies draw

A point on the road

12 November 2022

Our side and Salford City played out a 0-0 draw at the Peninsula Stadium as both teams failed to create too much in the way of clear-cut chances.

Ethan Chislett and Josh Davison passed up a couple of presentable first-half opportunities for us whilst the Ammies also had chances of their own – with Nik Tzanev making a great save to deny Matt Smith late on.

In the end it was a point well earned for Wimbledon as we extended our unbeaten run in the league to five games, with a welcome bonus of a second consecutive clean sheet offering further positivity.

Johnnie Jackson made one change to the side which saw off Leyton Orient 2-0 in midweek as Courtney Senior replaced the suspended Ayoub Assal. Meanwhile Alex Pearce featured on the bench for the first time since picking up an injury away at Bradford City.

After a quiet half an hour it was the Dons who created the first notable opening of the afternoon as Davison forced Tom King into a good save after being put in by Harry Pell’s header.

Chislett then rounded the Salford keeper before seeing his shot miss the target from an acute angle as we pushed hard before the break.

Moving into the second-half and Tzanev was called into action as he tipped a curling effort from Luke Bolton wide.

Chislett was then involved in the action again as he whipped in a great ball that was met with a diving header from Davison that failed to trouble King.

The same combination then saw our striker see his header matched by the hosts’ keeper as we began to have the better of the play in the final quarter of the game.

Tzanev then tipped Smith’s goal-bound header wide as we were forced back momentarily before stoppage time was shown.

The game finished goalless between the two teams as they failed to find a winner despite some late pressure at both ends of the field.
