Ethan: We’ve added ‘the dark arts’ to our game

Returning midfielder sums up derby win against the leaders

Ethan Chislett praised midfield colleague Harry Pell for bringing a darker side to our victory over League Two leaders Leyton Orient last night.

“The best bit about Harry, is that he’s like a wind-up merchant on the pitch, isn’t he?!” said Ethan of our sponsors’ man-of-the-match.

“It’s brilliant because it spreads. I think we needed a bit of that, especially with some of the stuff that happened last year. I think we need that ‘dark arts’ to the game and Harry has got that in abundance. He can also stick it top bins!”

First half goals from Ayoub Assal and Harry ultimately sealed back-to-back wins in the league for us for the first time since September of last year, although Ethan went very close to adding a third goal after the break on his return from injury.

“We’ve been trying to isolate Ayoub against full-backs and see what he can do,” said Ethan. “It always helps when you get a second for a team’s confidence. The morale and the belief were uplifted, and Harry’s finish was unbelievable too, so credit to both of them.

“Their keeper put my free kick onto the post. I was already off celebrating I think! It’s something I practice, so hopefully the next one goes in.

“I’ve been nursing my shin for a while. In the win at home to Harrogate it was a definite, clear penalty as their player has clipped me in exactly the place where it was, but I feel a lot better now and I was able to complete 90 minutes as well, so I feel good.”

Having made it six unbeaten, Ethan is determined we keep up our levels of performance with a first ever visit to Salford City this Saturday.

“We’ll be up for it,” said Ethan. “We’re on a good run of form and we want to continue with that. Confidence is high and the belief and the morale is there, so hopefully we can back it up with another win.

“The boys worked hard to a man. The subs who came on did their job and impacted the game. The two goals in the first half helped and then we knew what we needed to do in the second half to kind of kill them off. Throughout the game I thought we looked the more threatening team, and it was a well-deserved result.”
