Johnnie: Let’s keep this run going

Manager reacts to today’s draw

12 November 2022

Johnnie Jackson has challenged our players to maintain their current unbeaten run as today’s draw with Salford City made it seven games without defeat across all competitions.

It was a match of few chances which ultimately finished up goalless, however the gaffer was naturally pleased to not only extend our run but also come away with a second consecutive clean sheet.

“I’ve told the players to keep the run going. It’s seven games unbeaten,” he said. “We want to make it eight in the cup on Tuesday and then we want to go for nine. There’s a great spirit amongst the boys and you can see from the performances that they’re giving everything for the shirt.

“I’m pleased with the clean sheet. We haven’t had enough of them. We said on Tuesday night that it was our first in a while and we wanted to build on it. The defensive aspect of the performance pleased me the most. I’d like us to create more but I feel we carved out some good chances.”

When the Ammies did manage to fashion a chance, Nik Tzanev was there to thwart their efforts and pulled off the save of the match late on to deny Matt Smith.

“Tans came up with a big save at the end but beyond that I don’t think he’s had too much to do. It’s important for your goalkeeper to step up in those moments. I felt it was a solid point at a tough place to come. They’re a good side and we managed to limit them to a few chances. It was a closely contested game overall.”

Finally our manager also gave his thanks to our fans who once again backed the players from start to finish this afternoon.

“It was brilliant support yet again,” said Johnnie. “They travelled in their numbers and were in great voice. We’d liked to have sent them home with a win to celebrate. It was nice to thank them for their support.”
