Johnnie: Let’s set the record straight

Looking ahead to tonight’s game

22 November 2022

Johnnie Jackson has challenged our side to reclaim the bragging rights this evening as we play host to Sutton United once again.

Our local rivals were the last side to beat the Dons across all competitions – meaning that there is extra motivation for us to progress in the Papa John’s Trophy tonight as the U’s come to Plough Lane.

Snap-up your ticket for tonight’s game from our online ticket shop.

As part of his preview, Johnnie speaks about training at our stadium, competition for places, building on the win at Tranmere and provides his thoughts on the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

You can watch the interview on our Official YouTube Channel, whilst the full transcript can be read below.

PLOUGH LANE SESSION

It’s always nice to be down here. It’s a lovely pitch. It’s been a wet morning but it makes for some great conditions to play football. It was also good to have some of the fans in to get their eyes on training.

We look back at games whether we win or lose. We looked back at Tranmere this morning. It always feels sweeter when you’ve picked up the points.

SUTTON AND COMPETITION FOR PLACES

We want to win every game. They were the last team to beat us. We want to put things right. We’ll be looking to do that but at the same time it’s an opportunity for lads who haven’t been getting many minutes. We’ll be mixing things up.

When the Weymouth game came around there were a few lads that were keen to make sure that I didn’t rest them. The boys that are in the team and playing well want to stay in there and play every game. They want to maintain our form but we have a squad that we need to utilise. We’ve got people coming back from injury that could really do with games.

JACK CURRIE UPDATE

Jack trained fully. He’s fine and he’s available. He had a knock after the FA Cup replay. He’s back and he’s looking good.

WORLD CUP HOPES AND MEMORIES

I always look forward to World Cups. They’re iconic and I’m really hopeful that England can go far. I’m not sure if we’re the best team in it but with a bit of luck we can go one further than we did last time.

The 1990 World Cup is the one that I have the best memories of. I was only eight years old but seeing Gazza (Paul Gascoigne) crying and the shootout heartache stays in the memory.
