Johnnie: We must demand more

Reaction to cup tie

5 November 2022

Johnnie Jackson has urged our players to ask more of each other in the wake of our 1-1 draw away at Weymouth today.

After Ayoub Assal’s early goal put us in the driving seat, we failed to use the momentum to our advantage and as a result lost our foothold, eventually leading to the National League South side’s equaliser.

Our manager acknowledged that there is still a chance to progress to the next round but conceded that today’s performance wasn’t up to the standards we expect.

“I told the players that no one has done themselves particularly proud today,” he said. “They always demand more from each other and there are uncomfortable conversations that have to be had if we are to improve.

“We lost our momentum in the middle of the first-half and didn’t get it back. The conditions worsened in the second-half and we couldn’t gain control. On the balance of play it could have been worse. Credit to Weymouth, they were well up for it. I’m disappointed in the result as I wanted to be through already. We’ve now got an opportunity to put it right back at home.”
