Dav keen for more opportunities after comeback

Academy graduate makes it through cup tie return

David Fisher made a successful return from the recurrence of a hamstring injury, as a second half substitute in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Weymouth.

The young striker came on for the last half hour of our one-all draw at the Bob Lucas Stadium, as non-league side Weymouth booked a replay date back at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

“I was gutted to get the hamstring injury in the first place, but to happen again was tough,” said Dav after a lengthy lay-off. “I’m getting there now though. I started training again this week and now the aim is to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.

“I’ve seen Jack Currie and Isaac Ogundere break into the first team this season. That’s the main goal for me. I want to make sure that I’m putting pressure on the boys who are starting, however I can, come on and make an impact wherever possible. I want to get into the team.”

Although Dav has played in the FA Cup qualifying rounds before, most notably scoring a hat-trick while on loan to Carshalton Athletic, it was his first taste of the famous competition with the Dons. Having also had a successful spell with Hampton & Richmond, he knows what it’ll take to overcome National League South opposition back at Plough Lane.

“I think we’ve got to do what we were doing in the first half. We were putting it on them and their defence didn’t like it, making mistakes, and we were testing them. I think we’ve got to do more of that, and we’ll be alright.

“It was a great finish from Ayoub to put us in the lead. We started off well, we were playing the ball into their half, and it was working for us. I think we went away from that in the second half, due to the conditions it was a bit harder to do that, but although we made that good start – that’s how we need to keep going.

“We didn’t do enough to test Zaki Oualah. If you look at the shots, we didn’t get enough away. There’s more focus on the second half than the first and we needed to do more.”
