Stannard Collection to be unveiled

Join us for a special WiSH event

27 October 2022

We are pleased to announce that the Harry Stannard Collection is set to be unveiled at 12 noon on Saturday prior to our game against Harrogate Town.

Purchased by Dons supporter Terry Parker and Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association (WISA) in 2006, it consists of 27 items, including the runners-up gold medal for the FA Amateur Cup 1946/47, a winners’ gold medal for the Surrey Senior Cup 1939/40, and the Isthmian League winners’ trophy 1958/59.

There is also his England Amateur cap 1949/50, his Surrey cricket cap, and his long-term service shield for Wimbledon FC (1935-85).

The collection originally belonged to our former forward, a player who went on to record an astonishing 333 goals in 426 appearances – a tally bettered only by the legendary Eddie Reynolds – after being handed a trial in 1935 by our then manager Bobby Watts.

Harry is joint holder of the club record for the most individual goals in a game with six against Guildford in a 9-3 FA Cup 1950 win and three years earlier he opened the scoring in the Amateur Cup final defeat to Bishop Auckland.

When he hung up his boots at the age of 37, Harry joined Wimbledon’s management committee, firstly running the Strollers (3rd) XI and then taking over from ‘Doc’ Dowden as Honorary Manager until being replaced by Les Henley in 1955, who retained his expertise.

When the Dons turned professional in 1964, Harry moved upstairs to serve a further 12 years on the board of directors, after which he was made a life Vice President. He was honoured by Wimbledon FC for 50 years of service in 1985 – when he was still working in the club’s treasury department on matchdays.

Now, thanks to the work of WiSH (Wimbledon in Sporting History), we are preparing to pay tribute to Harry’s life and we would love to share the moment with as many of you as possible as we unveil the collection inside our club shop this weekend.

Don't forget that we've still got tickets available for the big game versus Harrogate.
