Tom strikes dramatic derby day winner

Young Dons seek to make it four on the bounce versus Southend

1 September 2022

Tom Wilson was Wimbledon’s last-gasp hero as he netted in the 94th minute to give us the bragging rights over local rivals Sutton United.

Wilson led the charge for our Under-18s earlier this week in a thrilling 4-3 EFL Youth Alliance South East League victory by striking the opener, before scoring the all-important late goal.

The young Dons appeared to be cruising to victory at our New Malden training base when Harry Sidwell doubled the advantage and Morgan Williams continued his prolific recent form with another goal.

However, there was a real twist in the tale after Sutton got one back as they seized momentum by wiping out the lead and the match was tied up once more at 3-3.

In a game full of drama, there was even more to come.

Deep into stoppage-time, a well delivered free-kick was played into the box, and the ball fell to Wilson, who fired home the winner to send the Wimbledon players into raptures.

The late winner meant that the young Dons have earned three successive victories with new manager Simon Clark leading the way.

Our Under-18s host Southend United at New Malden on Saturday (11 am kick-off).
