“A great day for the Club”

Reaction to another high-scoring victory

9 December 2023

Johnnie Jackson was ecstatic with the performance of our squad as the Dons turned on the style once more to beat Swindon Town 4-0.

An early goal from Omar Bugiel set us on our way to another impressive win, before a stunning strike from Armani Little gave us a cushion after the break.

Ali Al-Hamadi then added a well-taken brace to extend our winning run at the Cherry Red Records Stadium to six home victories in a row.

Here Johnnie discusses the performance, salutes the goal scorers and talks about the importance of using our squad.

ON THE PERFORMANCE…

It was a brilliant performance. It’s right up there with some of the best we’ve produced during my tenure. I’m really proud of the boys – the way they performed with and without the ball, the goals they scored and the impact that the lads who came on had – it’s a great day for the Club.

ON OMAR’S OPENER…

We started really fast. It’s something we spoke about all week. Off the back of five wins in a row going into this there’s a real momentum building and we have to make this the horrible place that this can be for the opposition. That means starting fast, getting after the ball, pressing and winning the ball back in great areas.

I’m delighted for Omar because I’ve been on at him about getting in the box and scoring tap-ins. It was a proper number nine’s goal, so I’m really pleased with him.

ON ARMANI’S STUNNER…

We don’t care how they come but Armani’s was a little bit nicer on the eye wasn’t it! The skipper (Jake Reeves) played it quick and he’s hit an unbelievable strike. I thought he was outstanding all day to be honest. His work off the ball, the running he gets through – he’s got that quality. It was a beauty.

ON ALI’S BRACE…

He was a constant threat. We knew as the game got stretched that those opportunities would come. As we soaked up the pressure they put us under we always seemed to be two against two at the top of the pitch. There’s no one better than Ali in those situations.

ON IMPACT OF THE SUBSITUTES…

Pelly (Harry Pell) came on and within a minute he’s played Ali in, it was a beautiful pass. The pass from Josh Davison for the fourth was outstanding too. They came on and affected the game when we needed them to.

We’re going into a crazy schedule, so we are going to need all of the boys. The way the lads who didn’t get on supported those on the pitch shows how good a group of lads we have – they want to do well for this football club.
