Joining forces with Johnnie to beat the elements after Swindon win

Big Sleep Out 3 raises funds for vital community projects

12 December 2023

A 65-strong team joined forces to beat the elements - only hours after celebrating that fantastic victory versus Swindon.

The Big Sleep Out 3 - held at the Cherry Red Records Stadium - has so far raised almost £29,000 for Dons Local Action Group's vital activites, which include providing food and furniture for those in desperate need.

Johnnie Jackson, Craig Cope, Terry Skiverton and Bayzo were joined by Haydon the Womble, who kept our management team warm at times!

Former Merton Mayors Joan Henry and Michael Brunt also participated in the event.

Xavier Wiggins, Dons Local Action Group Co-Founder, said: "It has been an intense period of fundraising for us and we'd like to thank everyone who has helped with the Gala and the Big Sleep Out. It gives us great comfort to know that the Club and the community are with us every step of the way. Thank-you to everyone involved.”

The Big Sleep Out has benefited from 860 sponsors making vital contributions, but there's still time to donate by clicking on the link below.

Though the Cappagh Stand stadium concourse was a popular place in the circumstances to doze off, our Official Podcast presenter Aaron Paul and the BBC Radio London team found an appropriate second home – the press box!

Aaron said: "This was genuinely one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, including mixing with the other participants, spending time at our beautiful Plough Lane venue, and the Sleep Out itself - I enjoyed every single moment of it.

"There really is something special about this football club. I'm so proud to have taken part and to have raised funds for a brilliant cause."

With Christmas coming up and the cold snap taking effect, there’s never been a more important time to support Dons Local Action Group.

As shown by the figures below, everyone connected with the charity has contributed so much to the community cause in the past month or so.
