Johnnie: We didn’t get what we deserved

Verdict on today’s defeat

4 February 2023

Johnnie Jackson felt his side were hard done by as the Dons suffered a narrow loss to Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road.

In the end a second-half goal from George Moncur proved to be enough as the league leaders edged a cagey affair.

However many will wonder how the game would’ve panned out if Wimbledon had taken one of the chances that fell our way before and after going behind.

Watch the interview in full.

“It was a missed opportunity,” said Johnnie. “We’ve gone toe-to-toe again with the league leaders. We didn’t get what we deserved based on how the game went. We’ve got ourselves to blame for that after carving out some decent opportunities.

“We were wasteful when we did win the ball back. We needed to be clinical in those moments. That was the difference today, they scored their only clearcut chance. There’s certainly not a big gulf between ourselves and those near the top.”

Ethan Chislett was understandably frustrated after passing up a good chance to put our side ahead after the break, however our manager insists that it’s something we will move on from swiftly.

“Chis is disappointed because he wants to score every game. As he’s going through there’s no one else that you’d want in that situation other than him. There’s no finger pointing from our end, we win and lose together. If we weren’t getting in those situations I’d be more concerned.

“The substitutes offered us something different,” he added. “With all the options we have it’s difficult for me to pick an 18. It’s good that we’ve got competition for places because we’re going to need everyone.”

Johnnie also confirmed that Huseyin Biler was replaced in the first-half due to a hamstring injury.
