On Saturday we played host to an inspirational couple from Ukraine for our match against Hartlepool United, rekindling their love for the beautiful game in the process.
Olena, is recovering from brain surgery and her husband Yaroslav - a young surgeon himself – has been allowed a short stay in the UK to see his wife and son Danylo. They all love football and are currently staying with a family in Wimbledon. In fact, Olena and Yaroslav travelled to Kiev to watch a match for their first ever date!
Little Danylo also enjoyed one of AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s football sessions last weekend. As shown in the message below, the couple loved their experience of Plough Lane:
“We’re keen football fans, and had a fabulous time watching the match on Saturday. We’re so grateful to the club for giving us a very special treat.
“Our family is now mostly separated, living in Ukraine and Wimbledon. By chance, our country and AFC Wimbledon share the same blue and yellow colours, so supporting Wimbledon is a perfect choice for us.
“Our four-year-old son loves the kit that the club have kindly given him - it’s going to be difficult to get him to wear anything else! Thanks again, Olena and Yaroslav.”
