Ali arrives! International forward signs

Our third January addition

12 January 2023

We are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Wycombe Wanderers striker Ali Al-Hamadi on a two-and-a-half year contract.

The versatile 20-year-old racked up 13 first-team appearances for the Chairboys and is regarded as a bright prospect for the future.

Ali was born in Maysan, Iraq before he moved to Toxteth in Liverpool following the breakout of the Iraq War. It was in England that his family settled and his football career began as he took in academy spells with both Tranmere Rovers and Swansea City.

His form for the latter earned him a first professional contract before he was eventually snapped-up by Wycombe following a successful trial period in November 2020. He was then loaned out to Bromley during the 2021/22 campaign, for whom he notched three goals and two assists in nine games from a wide position.

After returning to the Buckinghamshire club he netted his first goal, scoring a header against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup back in August. Ali has also been capped five times by the Iraq national team and was part of their squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He now bolsters our attacking options as he bids to enhance his development further with the Dons in Sky Bet League Two.

Speaking after completing the deal, Johnnie Jackson said:

“Ali is a young and hungry centre-forward who has been in and around the first-team all season at Wycombe. He could’ve stayed there but he has showed a desire to get out and show what he can do by playing regular football.

“He’s strong, he’s energetic and he gives us a threat in behind. He suits what we’re trying to do and gives us another option.”
