Continuing our rich cup history

Standout ties from the past

16 January 2023

Ahead of our highly anticipated FA Youth Cup game with Leeds United (7pm kick-off) this coming Thursday, we’ve taken a look back at some of our previous matches in the famous competition.

From last gasp giant killings to penalty shootout drama, we’ve experienced plenty over the years and will be hoping to create more history this week.

Tickets are available via our online ticket shop as we aim to get Plough Lane rocking against our opponents from West Yorkshire – any support for our side would be greatly appreciated!

WATFORD 2-2 AFC WIMBLEDON (4-2 DONS ON PENALTIES)

14TH DECEMBER 2015

During an era of great success for our Academy, the young Dons triumphed over a Premier League outfit on their own patch with Dan Ano and Alfie Egan levelling the tie twice to take the game to extra time at Vicarage Road.

After a goalless 30 minutes, Seanan McKillop, Ano, Nathan Wood and Reece Williams-Bowers all scored from the penalty spot, whilst Will Mannion denied Charlie Rowan to seal a 4-2 victory.

6TH JANUARY 2016

Egan was the hero again in the following round during the 2015/16 season as he netted a double at St James’ Park to see off the Magpies on their own patch.

First the attacking midfielder scored with a well-taken lob before his late header signaled jubilation among the Wimbledon players and travelling fans.

AFC WIMBLEDON 1-4 CHELSEA

9TH FEBRUARY 2016

The visiting Blues eventually saw off the Dons, however our side pushed an opposition that featured the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori all the way.

After Tomori had netted the opener Egan headed home to continue his remarkable scoring run in the competition before three further goals saw the top flight outfit prevail.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1-2 AFC WIMBLEDON

17TH DECEMBER 2016

Nick Akoto and Anthony Hartigan netted to complete a comeback over the Terriers as we progressed to face Hull City at home in the fourth round.

Joe Bursik was also in great form as he made some key saves to keep us in the contest on a day when we upset the odds once again.

AFC WIMBLEDON 1-0 BURNLEY

18TH MARCH 2021

Paris Lock was the hero at Plough Lane, with the 16-year-old forward netting in the final 10 minutes to knock out the Clarets - coming 46 years after then Southern League Wimbledon toppled top-flight Burnley.

Ben Mason and Matthew Cox also put in stand-out displays as our rearguard kept the Lancashire outfit at bay throughout the 90 minutes.

AFC WIMBLEDON 0-3 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

31ST MARCH 2021

The Dons forced Spurs to extra time during the 2020/21 campaign, eventually losing out in extra time after some good chances went begging.

Tottenham featured Nile John, Dane Scarlett, and Alfie Devine – all of whom had played a part for Jose Mourinho at first-team level. Dylan Adjei-Hersey, Quaine Bartley, Kwaku Frimpong and Isaac Ogundere would all go on to earn opportunities at first-team level for the Dons.
