Alex arrives! New keeper makes it nine

Recruitment drive continues

There’s a new man between the sticks for the Dons, with goalkeeper Alex Bass having today become our ninth summer signing.

Arriving on a season-long loan from Sunderland, Alex boasts a wealth of Football League experience having started his career with boyhood club Portsmouth before completing a move to the Stadium of Light this time last year.

Originally born in Eastleigh, the shot-stopper progressed through Pompey’s academy before being named on the bench at first-team level at just 16 years of age. He would go on to make 41 appearances for the South Coast outfit, winning the EFL Trophy along the way.

His development was also aided by loan spells with the likes of Salisbury, Torquay, Southend United and Bradford City. He joined the Black Cats in the summer of 2022, making his debut against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.

At the age of 25 Alex has his best years ahead of him and is now keen to make further progress after completing his move to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

“As soon as I heard about the opportunity to be here I was really excited,” said Alex. “I’m here to be myself and hopefully improve the team. I’ve heard great things about Bayzo – Aaron Ramsdale speaks very highly of him, which I think is the best praise he can receive.

“A fresh start is what I’ve been looking for, I can’t wait to get going. I like to be dominant when coming for crosses and I feel I am comfortable on the ball. You know you’re going to get hit in this league but you have to command your area and be strong.”
