Further insight on our newest addition

“The fans will see that I’ll give my best every game because I’m an honest player.”

Straight-talking and keen to get to work, Omar Bugiel set his standards out for the season ahead as he spoke to us during his first interview yesterday afternoon.

At the age of 29, this is a new challenge which excites a player that has been there, seen it and done it at various levels of the English football pyramid.

Now he’s keen to write a new chapter in his storied career with the Dons after putting pen to paper on a one-year contract.

Welcome Omar!

HONING HIS SKILLS

Our striker first took up the beautiful game in the form of Cageball – a sport invented by German football coach Jörg Berger which is essentially a caged version of indoor football.

MOVING ON

Born and raised in Berlin to a Lebanese father and Polish mother, Omar moved to Munich at the age of 11, where he then went on to 1860 Munich’s youth section. However he was released after being deemed too small!

SPOTTED IN ACTION

Upon his arrival in England as a 16-year-old, he was first picked out by the son of former Crystal Palace defender Paul Hinshelwood, which in turn led to his youth spell with Chichester City. In addition to this the striker also stayed at the Hinshelwood's house for two and a half years during his time in the city.

OFF THE MARK

Omar scored Sutton United’s first ever goal in the Football League, as he fired home a header against his former club, Forest Green Rovers.

FOOTBALLING FIRSTS

He is also the first Lebanese international to play in the EFL and score at Wembley Stadium, having achieved the latter whilst with Bromley.

FAMILY FAME

The 29-year-old’s uncle, Kida Khodr Ramadan, is a Lebanese-born German actor and producer. He has starred in films such as Man from Beirut and Kanun.
