Today we’re turning our attentions to another part of our upcoming three-day celebration – with the launch of a ground-breaking new book!

As part of Wimbledon in Sporting History’s (WiSH) Heritage Weekend (23-25 June), we will be launching Womble Till I Die: The Greatest Story In Football – a book containing all of the Wimbledon Football History in one large tome.

The book features a limited edition hard back cover and 600 pages of our history from 1889 to 2022, meaning it is the ideal gift for a fellow Don in your life.

It will be exclusively available from our club shop for a price of £25 on Saturday 24 June. With only 240 copies available, there will also be a chance to get yours signed by the author, Niall Couper, from 2pm onwards on the day of the launch.

Founded in 1889, the next 133 years is a football fairy tale for Wimbledon, as unbelievable as it is true. It is a unique and compelling story of a Club that - thanks to its supporters - refused to die, surviving a 30-year exodus and existential threat to return at last in 2020 to its spiritual home in Plough Lane, Wimbledon. It is football’s greatest story:

  • The most nomadic Club in England.
  • The greatest Invincibles in English football - with a run of 78 games unbeaten.
  • The only Club to have won both the amateur and professional FA Cups.
  • A unique 800 competitive matches against different opponents, from Debenham Leisure Centre to Real Madrid.
  • The only Club to have been relocated 60 miles away, but instantly resurrected back home by its supporters - seven leagues lower in the football pyramid.
  • As a fan-owned Club it only took nine years, from having no team or stadium, to return to the Football League.
  • After just another nine years, driven by its fans, the Club was back home in Plough Lane - with a brand new stadium.

Alongside the launch of the book, we will also be showcasing A Fans Club, Birth of a Phoenix - a play that tells the story of how Wimbledon FC supporters refused to let their Club die, and now it has been rewritten by Matthew Couper.

The play will feature on all three days of the weekend, plus WiSH have lined up guest speakers to talk about Wimbledon's unique history, and there will be the unveiling of the 'Greatest Team' art installation. These exciting sideshows are scheduled for the Saturday from 3pm after the launch at  2pm.

Tickets are priced at £20 (including booking fee) with the play featuring four times over the weekend.
