A real bonus for Ryan McLean after making his Wimbledon move is that he’ll now be able to swap the desktop for the training pitch.

Our new signing has been working as an IT Recruitment Resourcer, but now he has called time on his old day job!

“I’ve just handed in my notice after a year,” said Ryan. “They’ve been really good with me because it all happened so quickly and I’ve enjoyed working there. I’m looking forward to a completely different challenge now and a priority is to go house hunting with my girlfriend.

“I was at Shrewsbury until the age of 15, but I didn’t manage to get a scholarship. I played for my local Saturday team and proved what I could do against men, before gradually moving up the ladder and earning a move to Newcastle Town.

“I really progressed there as a young player, getting on the ball and scoring goals, and Hereford signed me, which was a very good move. The squad was full of ex-professionals, so it was a good level to learn from and show what I could do.”

After signing here, Ryan spoke passionately about signing for the Dons.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” added the winger. “Last Thursday was when things really started happening. Moving up from non-league to being a professional is the dream for anyone playing at that level. It takes a lot of hard work. When the opportunity came along, I just wanted to say ‘yes’ straight away.

“It all happened quite quickly. I had a bit of interest in me from elsewhere too, but this opportunity came along through my agent and as soon as he mentioned the possibility of coming here it was a no brainer.”
