Sasu secured! Exciting forward signs pro

Academy product added to first-team squad

20 June 2023

Aron Sasu today became the third player to sign their first professional contract this season, providing us with another exciting option for 2023/24.

A versatile forward, Aron has already been handed minutes for our first-team, having featured three times in the EFL Trophy after making his debut in 2021. He also bagged 17 goals across all competitions at Academy level last season.

His impressive cameo against Portsmouth in the 2022/23 campaign combined with consistent good form for our Under-18s has earned him a chance to push on alongside fellow graduates Paris Lock and Morgan Williams.

The trio will now be integrated into Johnnie Jackson’s first-team squad for the forthcoming season as our Academy continues to produce bright prospects.

Croydon-born Aron was naturally delighted to commit his future to the Dons: “I’ve been looking to achieve this since I was a kid. I want to push on to achieve more. I joined the Academy in 2015 when I had just turned 10, it’s been a big journey.

Hear what Aron had to say after signing pro.

“I played a big part in the FA Youth Cup which gave me a platform to get into the first-team. The pathway is now there for me to look to nail down a position in the squad. I like to think I’m very fast and of course I like to score goals. They’re the two best strengths for an attacking player.”

Speaking after Aron put pen to paper, Academy Manager Michael Hamilton said: “It’s a great opportunity for him. He has to keep working as nothing has been achieved yet. It’s just a bit of paper with a signature on it. I know players big themselves up to this moment but when he comes in for training on Thursday he has to make sure he hits the ground running.

“He needs to give Johnnie something to think about in pre-season and who knows – opportunities come to those who deserve them. He’s very good in a lot of areas. His presence and his height stands out but that’s not what makes him, he’s a lot more than that.

“He’s very good in one against one situations and he’s as good at creating chances as he is at getting on the end of them. He’s a good person, which is more important than anything. He conducts himself well.”
