James Tilley made his ambitions clear yesterday afternoon as he became our fifth addition of the summer transfer window. The exciting winger boasts good Football League pedigree having spent three years at Crawley Town and is now keen to make impression at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
His directness and creativity offer much promise heading into 2023/24 as he seeks to make a lasting impact in yellow and blue.

TEAMING UP WITH BENNO
James previously spent time on loan with League of Ireland club Cork City in January 2019, a spell in which he teamed up with our former captain, Alan Bennett. The duo formed part of the squad which went on to win the Munster Senior Cup.
FOOTBALLING FAMILY
His father Kevin is chairman of Southern Combination Division One side Billingshurst, whilst his eldest brother Nick has also played at County League level.
SPEAKING HIGHLY OF HOLLOWAY
Another former Don made a big impression on James earlier in his career, with Ian Holloway playing a significant role in bringing him to Grimsby Town.
The charismatic manager even visited his parents at their home to discuss the deal – whilst James was away preparing to play for his then-loan club Yeovil Town.
Recalling the impact that ‘Ollie’ had on his decision to move to Blundell Park, the winger said: “I wasn’t there when he visited my home – I had a game so I was in Yeovil, but he went to meet my Mum and Dad at my house. So as soon as I heard back from my Mum and Dad I set my sights on coming here straight away.
“He definitely played a big part in me coming here – he was really keen to get me in so straight away that made my mind up, and I’m really happy to be here now.”
