Ashlee sparks late victory charge for top-of-the-table Dons

AFC Wimbledon Women continue superb form

6 November 2023

AFC Wimbledon Women were rewarded for their perseverance on Sunday with a fantastic 70th minute strike from Ashlee Hincks paving the way to three points.

Up until 20 minutes from time, the Dons were foiled by a resolute Actonians side, but Hincks broke the deadlock and then added two further goals to complete a quick-fire hat-trick and a 3-0 win.

Kevin Foster's side had struggled to test the home goalkeeper in a pretty uneventful first-half, as the hosts showed that it was from a foregone conclusion.

Wimbledon almost broke the deadlock shortly after half-time when fine work down the right by Rosie Russell set-up Molly Childerhouse, but her effort was gathered by the Actonians keeper.

Hincks came even closer when her 35-yard free-kick rattled the crossbar, and Childerhouse also struck an effort against a post.

With an hour on the clock, Fran Ali and Sandra Soares Martin came on to replace Steph Mann and Ashleigh Goddard.

Though Faye Baker was forced into action, showing real alertness to come off her line and foil Actonians, that long-awaited breakthrough came 20 minutes from time.

And it was certainly worth waiting for as Hincks struck a sensational 40-yard free-kick that soared into the net.

There was a double change with 15 minutes to go as Kelly Highman and Emily Donovan made way for Hannah Mackenzie and Lucy Porter, before Nicola Gibson entered the fray for Childerhouse.

Though Actonians exerted pressure in the final stages, Faye Baker ensured that the Dons went home with the clean sheet.

As the clock ticked towards full-time, Hincks scored two in quick succession to grab herself a hat-trick!

The second goal was an audacious chip over the goalkeeper after a lovely through ball from Hannah Billingham, before Hincks sealed her hat-trick with a composed finish after pouncing on a loose backpass.

AFC Wimbledon Women will be aiming to take their impressive league form into the cup on Sunday when they travel to Saltdean United (1 pm kick-off).
