New dad Josh achieves a work-life balance

Striker aiming to get back in Johnnie's starting eleven

Josh Davison is experiencing everything that comes with being a new Dad, but both the striker and Wimbledon are benefitting from him getting a good night’s sleep!

With his daughter settling into life at home, Josh is managing the work-life balance on both fronts - thanks to his teammates and a very understanding partner.

“I’m loving it!” said Josh. “She’s just over three weeks old. The missus is at home taking a lot of the hard shifts, so fair play to her while I’m working out on the pitch. Family life is good.

“She’s taking most of the hits at night, when it comes to lack of sleep with a newborn, in order to let me do so. I’ve got to give her fair dos for that, as she’s doing amazing!”

Josh was speaking after a rare start and having doubled his tally for the season to four goals. He notched an early brace, taking him to three in his last two games, that secured the 2-0 victory over a young Crystal Palace side in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy group game.

“The main thing I want to do is try and get a place back in the starting eleven,” said Josh. “I’m getting minutes on the pitch and putting my name out there, which is all I can do.

“Last season I played more as a one up front, but now we’ve gone to a two - so I’m learning about partnerships with the other strikers and other players as well. I’m scoring goals from this, so it’s looking positive.”

Josh also felt the game provided a useful exercise for other teammates looking to stake a claim, including those returning from injury.

“Nik Tzanev pulled off two great saves and kept a clean sheet,” said Josh. “His kicking was on the money every time. It gives us a good opportunity when he hits a diagonal ball to players in good positions. I should have scored off one of them, when he played it to Omar Bugiel, and he flicked it through to me - simple as that!

“We’re getting everyone back. There’s competition for places and competition keeps everyone on their game, no slacking. That’s always a good thing to have.

“I’ve just got to keep giving one hundred percent every day. That’s all I can do. When the team gets picked - if my name is in - to just step in and do my best. I know what job I’ve got to do, so I try to produce on a Saturday or a Tuesday.”
