Loan Watch: Ethan earns praise from FA Cup hero

The latest round-up of our players in action elsewhere

13 November 2023

FA Cup hero Scott Wagstaff has been impressed by the start our young defender Ethan Sutcliffe has made at his current club Tonbridge Angels.

“Waggy” who made 72 appearances and scored six goals in just under two years with us, including two very memorable goals that knocked West Ham out in 2019, is now captain of the Kent side.

Our former midfielder has praised Ethan’s impact since he came into the Tonbridge starting line-up as they attempt to climb National League South. His latest display came in Saturday’s 3-2 victory at St Albans City.

“Ethan has been a rock for us since he’s come in, so he deserves all the credit he gets,” said Waggy. “He’s been outstanding. We’ve been unbeaten since he’s been in the team. I think he’s a proper defender with a great mentality to defend. He’s been so good for us that hopefully we can keep him for a little while longer now.”

Ethan has been keen to test himself at senior level this season and since figuring in the starting eleven, Tonbridge have won two, drawn two and only conceded four goals.

North of the border, Zach Robinson notched a landmark first Scottish Premiership goal for the striker on Saturday.

Zach played a key role in Dundee’s rise to the Scottish top flight last season. He found the net three times in the Scottish League Cup earlier this season, and he added to his tally with the fourth goal in the 4-0 victory at home to St Mirren.

Dundee moved up to fifth in the table and two points off third, after Zach dinked the ball over the keeper, just four minutes after having come on as a substitute towards the end of the game at Dens Park.

In the same division, defender Will Nightingale made his 13th appearance in all competitions for Ross County in the 1-0 defeat at St Johnstone.

Winger Ryan McLean came on for Kidderminster Harriers for the last quarter of an hour of their 1-0 defeat at Aldershot Town. Attacking midfielder Morgan Williams played the full game of Woking’s 3-2 defeat at Oxford City, also in the National League.

Forward Paris Lock scored his first goal of a very productive loan spell with Dover Athletic in National League South last Tuesday. He earned a share of the man of the match award, following the 2-2 draw with Welling United at The Crabble.

Paris also played the full game on Saturday for Dover, in their 2-0 defeat against leaders Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

Defender Ben Mason helped Braintree Town to a clean sheet in the 4-0 victory at home to St Albans in midweek. He gained another 84 minutes of game time in the 3-1 defeat at Eastbourne Borough at the weekend.
