On the comeback trail! Defensive duo primed for return

Defenders eye opportunities

17 October 2023

Paul Kalambayi and Huseyin Biler have been on the long road to recovery but now the end is very nearly in sight for the pair after they came through a friendly this afternoon.

For Paul it’s been a real test of patience, with a knee injury keeping our centre-back out of action for the best part of seven months, whilst ‘Hus’ has seen his progress hampered by hamstring injuries after enjoying a strong breakthrough season.

Now the target is to feature as part of a Wimbledon side that has only lost twice in League Two, with the duo understandably keen to form part of our push to continue the early season momentum.

Watch the full interview with PK and Hus below.

Watching from afar drives PK on

“I had to top up my minutes as it’s been a while since I played 90. I feel great, I feel myself and feel even fitter. That’s thanks to Chris McConnell, he’s pushed me hard as I’ve been out for seven months.

“The team is doing great, we’ve got a big squad and we’ve got healthy competition. That’s what’s pushing us. The competition is high in training, which is reflected in the games. I’ve been watching our games and analysing how we play. Everyone understands how we want to play. I’ve even been watching away games on my iPad and enjoying it – obviously I want to be playing.”

Hus on sticking to the grind

“I feel good, I thank God - glory to him as he’s brought me back from these hamstring injuries. It’s been difficult but we’re grinding and we’re back now.

Everything still feels normal. The team is doing well so we’re just being patient. Every session is going well and as long as we’re injury free, the opportunities will come. We’re playing great football this season but it’s been tough to watch being a player that wants to be out there because of the passion we have for the game. Patience is key.”
