“We had to be strong and resolute”

Another point on the road

21 October 2023

Johnnie Jackson was pleased after seeing the Dons pick up another clean sheet following what he saw as a ‘tight and close game’.

The match itself pitted together two teams that boasted unbeaten home and away records respectively, meaning the occasions was always likely to be cagey.

There were very few chances to write home about in truth, however Jake Reeves had a golden opportunity to win the game with the last kick of the game as he saw a one on one effort smothered by the Barrow goalkeeper.

Below is Johnnie's video interview, along with the main points from our manager's post-match reaction.

ON THE GAME…

On another day we probably score that goal and nick it. It was a really tight and close game. It was a difficult chance, I’ve got to say the pitch was really tough and poor today. I could see even when the ball came across that it was bobbling about. We had to be really strong and resolute to defend our box. Doing that gives you the opportunity to go and counter attack and create opportunities at the other end.

ON ANOTHER CLEAN SHEET…

I don’t feel like they played through us or got in behind us. It was the set piece moments that we had to defend and I feel like we did it really well. My biggest takeaway is how solid we were.

ON ARON SASU…

I never think twice about bringing him on. He’s dangerous in those one on one situations. We felt like there would be moments when he’d be able to threaten. On another day he would’ve got his goal.

ON SQUAD ROTATION…

Lee Brown has had a niggle with his back, Josh Davison travelled with the group but he had personal issues to attend to. He needed to get back to London last night, we obviously wish him well. Ryan McLean was the man who was unfortunate to miss out this time.

ON THE WIMBLEDON FANS…

I’d like to say a special thank you to our travelling fans today as they made the journey up in difficult circumstances. Their support always helps us on these long away trips, they were superb as always, I hope they have a safe journey back down south.
