“We should be annoyed with ourselves”

Reaction to today’s defeat

14 October 2023

Johnnie Jackson has told our players that we should be annoyed at the manner of Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Bradford City.

Wimbledon created enough chances to win the game on the balance of play and were made to pay for failing to show our ruthless streak as Bradford took their best chance of the afternoon to take all three points.

It was a result which represents only our second league defeat of the season and we will be looking to bounce back quickly next weekend as we make the long trip to Barrow.

Here Johnnie provides his thoughts on the game and offers an update on the fitness of Ryan Johnson.

We had enough chances to win the game, let alone get something. They had two chances in the whole game, it’s frustrating and hard to take. We’ve had four of five clear cut chances. We also had a clear penalty turned down. We have to be disappointed that we’ve come away with nothing.

There’s no satisfaction because of the loss. The performance level was still good. Was it as good as we have been? Perhaps not but we still limited a very good team to very little. The fact that we haven’t taken our chances is on us and then we went and conceded a soft goal.

I don’t think it’s serious. He had an issue with his neck in the later part of the week and was unable to train. There was some discomfort. We’re hopeful that he’ll be back for the next game.

My message to them was that we should be annoyed and frustrated with ourselves. But the last time we lost a game, we went on a really good run after that. We need to see that response again. We don’t become a poor team overnight, we’re a good side. We were dominant today and we have to remember that.
