Ogs a vital cog in our defensive machine

The Sunday Review with our regular right-back

Isaac Ogundere yet again helped maintain a solid defensive unit that has still only conceded three goals on our League Two travels this season.

The right-back, who turns 21 next month, has become a regular in Johnnie Jackson’s back line this season with 15 appearances in all competitions. He took pride in another clean sheet for us in Saturday's goalless draw at Mansfield.

“The back four and the attackers and midfielders - we all chipped in to get that,” said Isaac afterwards. “We were fighting, clearing the ball out of our box and the passion to get that clean sheet was there from the boys.

“We’re a really good, young, unit. I think that we communicate well with each other as well and we understand what we need to be doing with our shape. Me and Jack Currie work well with Joe Lewis and Ryan Johnson because they’ve got that experience and talk to us off the training pitch about what they require.

“You can see in a game that we keep it tight, we’re keeping clean sheets and I think that’s looking really good and coming along.”

A gruelling week on the road has yielded four points for us, what with Tuesday’s victory and another clean sheet at Harrogate. It could even have been a maximum six, but James Tilley was unable to convert a first half penalty.

“Tuesday we were excellent,” said Isaac. “To come here, probably one of the toughest places in this league, and to get a point - I think is a good result for us. We could have won the game today as well, but we’re buzzing with a seven-point week in total, having beaten Tranmere last weekend.

“Mansfield haven’t lost this season and we’ve got a very good away record and I think that shows how well we’ve progressed since last season. We’re keeping clean sheets now at tough places to visit and coming away with a point.

“Regardless of the penalty, Tills has been excellent for us this season. He’s not going to score them all, but he’s a great player. He’s already scored eight goals. It didn’t go in for him on this occasion, but I’m sure in the next game he’ll try and get a goal.”

That next game is at home to managerless Bradford on Saturday, when Isaac wants to reward our tremendous travelling support this week and the rest of the Dons fan base.

“We could give our fans another really good result,” said Isaac. “That’s what we’ll be aiming for - to put on a show for the fans who came to Mansfield and Harrogate and also for the ones who are going to come to Plough Lane.

“They were excellent here and even on a Tuesday night, with that many travelling to Harrogate in midweek, is unreal. They’ve been with us all season and we need even more of their support now that we’re trying to get even better results.”
