Ali on King’s Cup duty

Striker heads to Southeast Asia

4 September 2023

Ali Al-Hamadi has joined up with the Iraq national team for the 49th King’s Cup in Thailand.

Our striker flew out to Chiang Mai yesterday in preparation for his country’s semi-final against India which is due to take place on Thursday 7 September (kick-off 17:30).

If Iraq are victorious, they will partake in the final of the competition on Sunday 10 September (kick-off 20:30) at The 700th Anniversary of Chiang Mai Stadium.

This of course means that Ali will miss our upcoming games against Stevenage in the EFL Trophy and Stockport County in League Two. The training camp is due to finish on Monday 11 September.

Ali will be looking to add to his record of five international caps as his country bids to win the competition.

Everyone at AFC Wimbledon wishes Ali all the best on international duty with his country.
