We’ve made it two signings in a day with Stockport County midfielder Connor Evans completing a season-long loan move to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
This quickly follows on from our earlier addition of Charlie Lakin, with the Dons taking this last opportunity to strengthen our squad.
Born in Swansea, Wales, Connor has played a part in 185 league games, with the biggest highlight being winning the National League South title during his six-year spell with Torquay United.
His success with the Gulls didn’t go unnoticed, with his attacking contributions seeing Stockport part with an undisclosed fee to bring him to Edgeley Park and subsequently the Football League in the summer of 2022.
Prior to hitting a purple patch in his career, Connor rose through the ranks at Bristol City, going on to make one senior appearance. It was the loan moves that followed this spell which have got him to where he is today.
The 26-year-old will now be looking to kick on at Wimbledon after linking up with the squad today ahead of our next league game against Newport County.
Johnnie Jackson feels we will really benefit from signing a player who was much sought after in more recent times: “He’s a player that I’ve liked for a long time. He was part of the really successful Torquay team that Armani Little and Joe Lewis came from. He knows those guys and he was one of the most sought after players in the National League when Stockport signed him.
“They beat a lot of clubs to his signature. He’s found himself in and out of their team this season but he’s got bundles of ability and can play across the front three positions. Left-wing, right-wing, can play as a 10 – he’s a very creative player that wants to get on the ball and score goals. He will give us a creative spark at the top end of the pitch.”
