Loan Watch: Paris continues to unlock defences

Weekend round-up of our players in action elsewhere

25 September 2023

Paris Lock demonstrated his attacking threat once again by playing a pivotal part in Dover’s entertaining draw on Saturday.

The flying forward marked only his second appearance for the Whites with an involvement in both of the goals for his loan club, as Dover shared the spoils at Bath City.

Second bottom Dover dug deep to earn a 2-2 draw against top of the table Bath, but they took the lead in the first half when Paris beat his opposing full back and delivered a cross into the box that was only half cleared, and that led to the opener.

Paris was again involved after the break, when attacking against two of the home side's defenders inside the penalty area. He tricked and turned his opponents before pushing the ball between the two of them, but he was fouled and earned a penalty. That was subsequently converted as Dover doubled their advantage in the second half.

Bath fought back though and showed their quality as table toppers and pulled it back to 2-2, before Dover were reduced to 10 men in the 88th minute, eventually having to hold on for a point.

Ben Mason returns to FA Cup action this weekend with Braintree Town, when they host Brackley Town in the third qualifying round.

The young defender helped The Iron to a replay victory after extra time over Canvey Island in midweek, having come on as a second half substitute. Ben was on the bench for Saturday’s Essex derby at Aveley, which finished 1-1 in National League South.

Having exited the FA Cup to Aveley after a replay earlier in the week, striker Quaine Bartley was joined by defender Ethan Sutcliffe for King’s Lynn Town’s National League North game at Warrington Town.

Ethan completed the game on debut, while Quaine came on for just over the last quarter of an hour in a 1-0 defeat.

Striker Zach Robinson continues to search for his first Scottish Premiership goal. He played for just over an hour of Dundee’s two-all draw with Kilmarnock.

Defender Will Nightingale and his Ross County teammates will be looking to regroup and avenge a 4-0 defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday. The two sides meet again in a Scottish League Cup Quarter-Final on Wednesday night, when Will will be among those aiming to get the better of Kelle Roos in the visitors' goal.
