“We were devastating at times!”

Reaction to a big win

30 September 2023

Johnnie Jackson was visibly delighted after seeing our side sweep Tranmere Rovers aside 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

It was another display of pure ruthlessness from the Dons as Armani Little’s first goal for the Club was followed up by a superb hat-trick for Ali Al-Hamadi.

The result sees us record two wins on the bounce and move up into the play-off places ahead of a series of long away trips.

Below is Johnnie's video interview and a summary of the key points.

ON THE WIN…

It was a really good win. Delighted to get four goals. I’m delighted for Ali to get a hat-trick. We were devastating at times going forwards. We could’ve scored more if I’m being greedy again but on the back of Tranmere having a good win last week, we knew they’d be up for it. To cut them open in the way that we did and to score four was really pleasing.

ON BOUNCING BACK…

I was delighted with the response but I wasn’t delighted with the first 20 minutes. I thought we were way off it. The goal was coming, they had a couple of sighters that we got away with and then they scored. We got what we deserved at that stage. It was the kick up the backside that we needed. I told the boys about that at half-time but the response was brilliant. Going behind was the stimulus we needed to take control of the game and we did that.

ON ARMANI LITTLE…

He was terrific. We know what he’s all about. Him and Jake Reeves have a really good partnership in there. I’m delighted he’s scored because I know what he’s capable of and I know he’s got goals in his game. It’s taken him too long – he’ll be the first to admit that, especially being someone with his talent. He’s deserved it after missing the penalty last week. His all round performance was brilliant.

ON THE SQUAD…

It’s a real collective effort. There’s partnerships forming all over the pitch. We’re able to bring on good players, that’s an important thing to mention. It’s a real squad effort. It’s not about 11 players, it’s about the 18 and the four or five that have to miss out.

ON ARON SASU…

The kid has got so much talent. His ability is a joke at times. I see him every day in training. He’s forced my hand. Josh Neufville had a little knock at the start of the week. This is what your squads for. Sas has been on fire in training. He’s deserved his chance.

ON CONNOR EVANS' ABSENCE…

He came out of the game last week with a little hamstring issue. I’m not sure how serious it is. He will miss a game or two. I’m gutted for him as he did great last week.

ON MAINTAINING MOMENTUM…

We’re back on the road on Monday, travelling up north and then doing it again on Friday. These are the weeks where we utilise our squad and recover right. We have to stay humble and level-headed. Harrogate are a good team, we don’t think we’ve cracked anything. The lads are confident, in a good place and playing well. We have to try and go again.
