Joe puts injury woe behind him to battle for the Dons cause

Joe Lewis is keen to put two months on the sidelines behind him and help us achieve as high a finish as possible in his first season with us.

The Welsh centre-back had become an integral part of our backline, having joined on loan from Stockport County last summer. However, after making his move permanent in January, Joe suffered a knee injury in our EFL Trophy quarter-final at Peterborough.

Having now fully recovered, he came on towards the end of our Good Friday draw with Harrogate and played for over 90 minutes against his former club on Easter Monday. Joe said: “I feel fine, having got through the game.

“The injury feels good, so hopefully I can put that behind me now for good and just crack on with the rest of the season.”

You can listen to everything Joe had to say below

“It’s absolutely not over yet, in terms of making the play-offs. We need to go into these last four games trying to win them and whatever happens at the end of the season happens.

“We need to control what we can control and try and take three points from as many games as we can and see where we end up after the final whistle on the final day.”

Joe took the positives from a single-goal defeat at Edgeley Park against the League Two leaders, where a fine strike late on from Odin Bailey separated the two sides, after James Tilley struck a post from the penalty spot for us in the first half.

“It was a long way to travel and to play against them missing several key players, as we did, is a credit to us really,” added Joe. “The shift that the lads put in, who were out there, was superb.

“I think we’ve got to take some heart from the fact that we played so well today.

“It’s a shame really. I thought that the lads worked really hard and limited them to shots outside the box. I can’t remember too many opportunities they had inside the box and I thought we were excellent in and out of possession.

“If we’d converted the penalty, it probably would have put us in a good position, but I thought that even after that our reaction was excellent. No heads went down from the lads, everyone still put in a great shift and we were right in it until the end.”
