Balmer & Moore! Long throws and returning home

Dons TV exclusives

12 February 2024

Kofi Balmer and Sammy Moore left their own marks on Saturday’s game in very different ways.

For the former it was a home debut to remember as he kept a clean sheet as part of our 2-0 win over Barrow, whilst for the latter it was a chance to reunite with some old faces at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Kofi’s eye-catching long throws proved to be an effective weapon for the Dons, causing chaos on the penalty area. Whilst Sammy was visibly moved by the rousing reception that he was given by the Wimbledon faithful prior to kick-off, offering him a chance to reflect on his five-year spell with the Club.

Here the duo both provided their thoughts in interviews with our Dons TV team. You can read and watch both down below!

BALMER’S SECRET WEAPON

Kofi said: “When you don’t concede you can only win games. The main thing is that we’re getting the basics right. I loved playing in front of our fans – before joining Ethan Chislett told me that the fans would be behind me. It spurred us on, it gives us the energy to make that tackle, make that block.

“Lee Brown is very experienced. I’m young and I’m willing to learn, so it helps having him alongside me. He knows where to be on the pitch and knows what to do. It’s helped me to settle a lot. We didn’t give Barrow much today.

“I’ve had the ability to throw it like that since I was a kid. When you’re up near the box it’s essentially another cross. My brother actually has a longer throw than me! The story behind it is that we were having a competition to see who could throw the ball further. If I can use it to help the team, so be it.”

MOORE, MOORE, MOORE!

Sammy said: “It’s amazing. It’s great to be back. I’ve been dying to come back for many years but football commitments have taken over. It’s great for my kids and my wife to see the ground. It’s great to see some familiar faces – everyone looks a bit older but no one’s changed! To have been part of this journey is amazing.

“I always believed this would happen. I believed in the project and ambitions of the Club. I wanted to be part of the journey, I was lucky enough to play for this fantastic club for five years and it’s the best club I’ve ever played for.

“The fans are outstanding. They just want to see their team work hard and if you do that then you’ll become a legend here. I was lucky enough to wear that badge with pride every game. I’m gutted I can’t put my boots on today.”
