Rebecca Carter's long-awaited return provided extra cause for celebration on Sunday, as AFC Wimbledon Women marched to victory at Chesham United.
Kevin Foster’s side secured three points on the road with an emphatic 4-0 win at Chesham that was achieved with the added bonus of Carter returning as a late substitute after 511 days out with injury.
The Dons tested the home side's resolve early on with Ashlee Hincks having an effort saved by Chesham keeper Lucia Delves, before a long-range shot from Ellie Dorey flashed over the crossbar.
But there was no reprieve for Chesham just before the half hour as Hincks broke the deadlock in style, striking a superb 25-yard effort that looped over the keeper after she was set-up by Emily Donovan.
The advantage was doubled before the break, thanks to Ashleigh Goddard, as she calmly slotted the ball home from close-range.
Dons keeper Lauren Allen was called into action for the first time at the start of the second-half, but that failed to swing the pendelum Chesham's way as the advantage was extended shortly afterwards. Hannah Mackenzie headed home powerfully for her first Wimbledon league goal after getting on the end of a well delivered corner by Hincks.
As the clock ticked towards the hour mark, Kevin Foster made his first change, with Skye Bacon replaced by Sandra Soares Martins, before Molly Childerhouse replaced goalscorer Ashleigh Goddard.
After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Dons were delighted to welcome back Rebecca Carter, who was introduced in the last 10 minutes in place of Fran Ali.
As full-time loomed, Ellie Dorey made it 4-0 to the Dons with a superb strike from outside the area, putting the icong on the cake, as Wimbledon stayed in charge of their own title destiny.
