We can confirm that Ali Al-Hamadi has left AFC Wimbledon, signing for Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich Town in a significant deal for club and player.
The deal is the highest amount received in the AFC Wimbledon era, and includes future incentives which could see the transfer become a record amount at League Two level.
Johnnie Jackson said: “I’d like to wish Ali all the best for the future. We thank him for his contribution. He has made a great impact in the 12 months he was with us.”
Head of Football Operations Craig Cope added: “We wish Ali all the best in his future career, we thank him for the impact he made and support his progress from afar as we retain a vested interest.
"The plan was to sell Ali in the summer. This would have been our strong preference. However, Ipswich tabled a strong offer to both parties, and we totally understand the potential opportunity for Ali to play Premier League football next season.
"Although disappointed to lose him in January, I see this as a great success for the Club. The work across the football department over the past 12 months has provided a platform for him to improve and thrive, becoming the hottest prospect in the division.”
Ali originally joined the Club from Wycombe Wanderers in January 2023, putting pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
He proved to be a real hit in yellow and blue notching up an impressive 10 goals in his opening 19 league games, making him a firm fans’ favourite as a result.
This strong form has continued into the 2023/24 campaign, with 17 goals across all competitions naturally attracting attention from clubs higher up the pyramid.
Craig Cope will provide a further update at the end of the week post the transfer window.
