Curtis captured! Ronan arrives on short-term deal

Renowned attacker joins

19 January 2024

Ronan Curtis has made it three for the winter as he today put pen to paper on a deal with the Dons until the end of the season.

The seven-time Republic of Ireland international has a reputation that speaks for itself at Football League level, having racked up an impressive 57 goals and 42 assists in 226 games for Portsmouth.

During a five-year spell at Fratton Park the forward also won the EFL Trophy in the 2018/19 season and became the highest scoring player for the club in the current century.

All of this came off the back of a £100,000 move from Derry City in Ireland, for whom he had played for at youth and senior level after moving to County Donegal as a 10-year-old.

Now looking to rediscover his sparkling form at Wimbledon, 27-year-old Ronan is raring to go in yellow and blue.

“It feels amazing to be here,” he said. “I have to pay my respects to Wimbledon for letting me come in and get back fit. It’s a lovely stadium and we have a great bunch of lads here. There’s good players that can give me the ball, I thrive on my goals and assists.

“The message is plain and simple. I need to go and express myself, do what I do best, score goals and set up goals. Hopefully we can get in the play-offs and see what happens. I’m here to be a team player.”

Johnnie Jackson said: “Ronan has been training with us for a number of weeks, building his fitness up after sustaining an injury. He’s been really impressive, he’s getting stronger, he’s getting fitter and we’ve seen his obvious quality.

“He’s played at a much higher level for the majority of his career, he’s a full international. He’s been with us and can see what we’re trying to do. He’s excited about being a part of it, so it’s a deal which suits all parties. It’s short-term until the end of the season, we’ll see what happens beyond that. We feel like he can come in and help us.”

Head of Football Operations Craig Cope said: “Obviously circumstances have allowed us to sign a player of Ronan’s quality. We are delighted to be able to provide him with a platform to get back on track whilst adding real quality to our attack as we pursue a positive remainder of the season.

“A special mention must go to our Medical and Sports Science departments whose work has enabled this signing to take place.”

As we announced earlier, our home match versus Crawley has been postponed, but there's not too long to wait for our next game at the Cherry Red Records Stadium - eight days in fact!
