Four or more! Dons hit the goal trail

A look back at some memorable 2023 victories

2 January 2024

The goals have certainly been spread around our Wimbledon side so far this season, bringing about some eye-catching scorelines in the process.

Our recent 5-3 victory over Colchester United was in fact the seventh time in 2023/24 that the Dons had struck four goals or more in a game across all competitions.

So we've brought together highlights of all 32 goals scored in those fixtures for your viewing pleasure as we aim to add to those positive figures further heading into 2024.

AFC Wimbledon 4-1 Tranmere Rovers – Saturday 30 September

It was a day that Ali Al-Hamadi won’t forget in a hurry as he scored his first senior hat-trick against a side that he previously played for at youth level.

Our striker bagged his first treble for the Dons on a day when Armani Little also got off the mark in yellow and blue.

AFC Wimbledon 5-1 Cheltenham Town – Saturday 4 November

The first of two five-star Emirates FA Cup performances saw Wimbledon blow a Sky Bet League One side away at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Al-Hamadi got the scoring underway with the opener before James Tilley goals either side of half-time were added to by Josh Davison and Connor Lemonheigh-Evans.

AFC Wimbledon 4-2 Notts County – Saturday 25 November

This League Two clash pitted together two play-off hopefuls, with a cagey encounter seemingly in store. Nevertheless, it couldn’t have been any further the other way as the Dons took control to take all three points.

Captain Jake Reeves got us underway from the penalty spot, before Al-Hamadi rounded the keeper for two. Our number four then buried another spotkick to put us 3-2 ahead following a Notts County comeback before the Iraqi international scored a breakaway goal for four.

AFC Wimbledon 5-0 Ramsgate – Monday 4 December

Our side put on a scoring show in front of the ITV cameras as we saw off a plucky Ramsgate side in the second round of the FA Cup.

Reeves put away a stunner in the opening minutes, before Al-Hamadi and Josh Neufville made the game safe before half-time. The former then notched his brace following a powerful Lemonheigh-Evans strike.

AFC Wimbledon 4-0 Swindon Town – Saturday 9 December

The Dons saw off another play-off contender at Plough Lane as Omar Bugiel opened the scoring with a near post finish.

Little then came up with the moment of the match as he scored a scorcher from distance before Al-Hamadi notched up yet another brace to bring up a simply brilliant scoreline.

Portsmouth 2-5 AFC Wimbledon – Tuesday 19 December

A much-changed Wimbledon side had their shooting boots on once more as scored five at Fratton Park in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

Academy graduate Aron Sasu curled home his first senior goal before Davison and Alex Pearce (his first for the Dons) put us in control at half-time. Then came a stunning Harry Pell free-kick and customary goal from Al-Hamadi to wrap up the win.

AFC Wimbledon 5-3 Colchester United – Friday 29 December

Our front two showed their best form to wrap up the year in style with Al-Hamadi setting up Davison for the opener.

Then came a header from Joe Lewis, who would latterly switch roles to assist Davison’s second with a brilliant ball over the top. Al-Hamadi then got in on the act to give us a two goal cushion at 4-2 before Lewis scored from close range to bag an unlikely brace for our centre-back.
