Gordon’s in! John-Kymani arrives on loan

Forward becomes second winter addition

17 January 2024

The Dons have doubled our January signing tally today with John-Kymani Gordon arriving on loan.

A versatile forward player, John-Kymani joins us from Crystal Palace on a deal until the end of the current season, adding to our attacking options at a vital stage of our Sky Bet League Two campaign.

The 20-year-old is no stranger to the Football League having already experienced a promotion in his short senior career. He scored in the semi-finals for Carlisle United before starting the play-off final as they reached League One at Wembley last season.

Born in Croydon, the attacker netted twice in 17 games for the Cumbrians in 2022/23 before gaining further experience in the current campaign with Cambridge United in the third tier, making 19 appearances before returning to Palace this month.

John-Kymani is now aiming to make a lasting impact back in the familiar surroundings of South London after completing his move to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

“I know how big this club is having played against Wimbledon last season,” he said. “I’m very excited to fit into an attack-minded team, I feel like I’ll fit in perfectly and score some goals here. The team’s done really well up to this point and my job now is to come in and help them. I’m a hardworking, aggressive and passionate player. I just want to win and push the team as high in the league table as possible.”

Johnnie Jackson said: “John-Kymani is a really exciting young player that Crystal Palace have really high hopes for. He has huge potential to one day play for them – it’s a great opportunity for him and us. He can play wide and he can play up front, he gives us options in attack. He’s had success at the level already having been promoted with Carlisle last season, he fits the bill for the sort of player we’re looking for. He’ll be a real asset for us between now and the end of the season.”

Head of Football Operations Craig Cope added: “We are delighted that patience has paid off and we have managed to secure a player of John-Kymani’s calibre. He has been in this situation before and suits the way we play.”
