Joe Lewis is officially a Don!

The 24-year-old has today put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Club, completing a permanent move from Stockport County for an undisclosed fee.

Originally arriving at the Cherry Red Records Stadium last summer on loan, Joe has become a pivotal member of our squad, forming a solid partnership with Ryan Johnson at the heart of our defence.

To date, the centre-back has racked up 28 appearances across all competitions in yellow and blue, whilst also contributing three goals.

Having committed his future to Wimbledon, Joe can now look forward to helping our side maintain what has been an extremely bright start to the season.

Speaking for the first time after signing permanently, he said: “It’s a great feeling. I’ve spent the last six months here and really enjoyed it. It’s an important move for me, I’m playing good football and feel I can kick on with the Club now.

“The relationship I have with the manager and Craig has been massive to getting this done. The communication throughout the whole process has been constant and it’s something we’ve all wanted to get sorted. Our aim has to be pushing for promotion – if we’re playing League One football next season, that’ll be great.

“I’ve seen a lot of the posts and feelings from the fans about the prospect of me staying here, it’s been great to see. I’ve felt it deeply.”

Johnnie Jackson said: “I’m delighted that Joe has joined us on a permanent deal. He’s been brilliant for us this season, he’s been an ever present in the team when he’s been available to play.

“When it looked like we might be able to do something with Stockport, we were desperately keen to make it happen. The lad has loved being with us and playing for Wimbledon, he’s shown that week in, week out. He was as equally enthusiastic as us to get this done when the opportunity came along.”

Head of Football Operations, Craig Cope, added: “Joe has been a key part in what we have started to build here, both on and off the pitch. He is also a firm fans’ favourite, so we are delighted to have secured his services permanently.”

CONNOR RECALLED

Connor Lemonheigh-Evans has today been recalled from his loan spell with the Dons by Stockport County.

The versatile winger arrived at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on 1 September and went on to make 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals.

He now returns to Edgeley Park after his parent club activated their recall option.

Everyone at AFC Wimbledon would like to thank Connor for his efforts and wishes him all the very best in his future career.
