Joe aims to double up as a Don

New signing wants to kick on

11 January 2024

Joe Lewis has targeted more goals in the colours of yellow and blue after completing a permanent move to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

The 24-year-old central defender yesterday put pen to paper on a long-term contract as he committed his future to Wimbledon following his move from Stockport County.

Joe has thrived for the Dons this season, making 28 appearances at the heart of defence – whilst he has also found his scoring touch more recently.

Two goals against Colchester United to round off 2023 took the Welshman to three for the season, and now our (not so) new man is seeking to add to that tally in the new year.

“I hope so,” said Joe. “I’ll be aiming to double my tally by the end of the season. The biggest thing for me is that those goals contribute towards three points on the weekend and give us a good kick and push towards the play-offs.

“I’ve spent the last six months here and really enjoyed it. It’s an important move for me, I’m playing good football and feel I can kick on with the Club now.”

This weekend will see the defender return to familiar territory as the Dons head to North Wales to take on fellow promotion hopefuls Wrexham.

“It’s going to be a good atmosphere there, it always is,” he said. “Realistically for us it’s a big game because we see them as direct competitors, so we’ll be aiming to take three points off them.

“Our aim has to be pushing for promotion – if we’re playing League One football next season, that’ll be great.”
