Ecstatic forward aims to build on first assist

JKG excited for what’s to come

John-Kymani Gordon revelled in the ecstasy of our dramatic Saturday win over Mansfield and is keen to build on picking up a first assist for the Dons.

The livewire Crystal Palace loanee was handed his first start by Johnnie Jackson at the weekend and duly took his opportunity with both hands.

It was John-Kymani’s quick feet and thinking that helped to set up Omar Bugiel for the opening goal as Wimbledon eventually went on to defeat the Stags 2-1.

Here the forward talks to our Dons TV team about his home debut, the ecstasy of Ronan Curtis’s last-gasp winner and settling into the squad.

“I’m pretty lost for words! I was watching on from the bench, feeling nervous because I was hoping we’d get the win. I’m delighted. Before the game my target was to get a stat in front of the fans and show them what I’m about. I got an assist - I didn’t get a goal but at the end of the day we got the win and that’s all that matters.

“Wherever the gaffer wants me to play, I’ll give it my all. I love getting at my man. If I need to run in behind and have a scrap I’ll do that for the team. Our fans don’t stop from start until finish. I could feel them cheering me on when I was on the left wing. Having my family down to watch me is nice.

“The squad is great, there’s a lot of banter. They’ve not put pressure on me, they’ve said they know I’m good and told me to go and do my thing. It’s given me freedom.”
